How did the project start?

Quickrelease.tv started life to host my podcasts, online video and written ramblings. Quickrelease (sort of) refers to the speed of info dissemination but it's mainly a way of fixing a wheel to a bicycle. The blog is all about bikes. I'm the editor of BikeBiz.com, an international news site and trade magazine for the bicycle industry.

What options did you consider?

Own PHP coding or self-hosted using WordPress. I plumped for the latter because of the third-party add-ons, especially monetisation and social network widgets.

What help and expertise did you receive?

Fellow bike bloggers in US helped a lot with WordPress advice, site hosting services and blog-friendly podcast hosting (Libsyn.com)

Did you face any challenges or learn any lessons?

Challenge was to boost readership from zero. It can now attract 1000+ unique visitors a day.

What are the outcomes and how has it improved your business?

Quickrelease.tv content is personal views, the sort of commentary I wouldn't be able to put on a trade story on BikeBiz.com. This freedom to commentate on breaking stories is a useful way to split my editorial role.

What are your plans for the future?

Increase readers. 15 months online is meant to be watershed. Keep placing daily content to maintain site's freshness. Keep up to speed with the latest blog widgets, especially social networking widgets.
