How did the project start?
From an embryonic idea to give back to the sport we decided to create a rugby news site and to provide video coaching for rugby. After several meetings we decided to expand this considerably. We quickly developed a simple pilot site to test the concept and that has developed into a much more sophisticated and site. We came up with the name Everything Rugby on the basis that we want to provide absolutely everything in one place.
What options did you consider?
At first we considered creating just a simple coaching and news site. With the developers we expanded this considerably and now provide grass roots and premier news (that the clubs can enter themselves), a complete sitebuilder to build your own rugby site, directories, coaching and much more.
What help and expertise did you receive?
We received advice from Business Link from the outset and our business advisor (Harold) was great in helping us down the right route. Our developer added so much to the mix that we are partnering moving forward and we have had a lot of support from people within the sport of rugby as well as other business contacts that I know
Did you face any challenges or learn any lessons?
There were quite a few challenges during the project. Timescales were always a challenge as creating a site like this is much more complex than a layperson could imagine and I like things done quickly. Keeping ourselves focused has also been a challenge, but the whole experience has been very rewarding
What are the outcomes and how has it improved your business?
The outcome is a site we are very proud of and one that is expanding at a good rate due to the professionalism of the site. We are a completely free site, so that helps, but the response that we have had from the public has been amazing. Players, fans and enthusiasts have all congratulated us on creating a site that is for the grass roots of this game.
What are your plans for the future?
We already have a roadmap that we are working on with the developers and our plan is to become the number one rugby portal in the UK. Watch this space
