How did the project start?
Pegasus Fitness was born out of the frustration of having to always shop for quality running / hiking products at retail outlets in locations outside of Middlesbrough.
What options did you consider?
My first option was to open a shop in Middlesbrough, but the costs proved unrealistic. This forced me to reconsider my options, which led to the decision to initially conduct business soley through an ecommerce site.
What help and expertise did you receive?
My first port of call was having my business plan examined by Tees Business Link. This proved invaluable in that they showed all the options open to me. This eventually led to me gaining finance and a grant through the British Legion and the Catalyst 2 project. It also led to me choosing Visualsoft to design my ecommerce website.
Did you face any challenges or learn any lessons?
I learned how valuable a well researched and written business plan is! This was the key to being taken seriously. Everything else followed from there.
What are the outcomes and how has it improved your business?
In under a year my 'daft idea' has turned into a business reality.
I am getting a constant increase in traffic to the website, with a matching increase in turnover - crucial in these early days.
What are your plans for the future?
To develop the website further using more educational material and other technologies.
The site is to become a reliable resource of valuable information, as well as a competitive niche market retailer.
The aim is to advance and progress, not become complacent.
